Marylin Roberta Yonning, 83, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor.
Born September 19, 1931 in Onaga, Kansas, the daughter of Erwin J.F. and Clara (Matzke) Wegner, she graduated from Onaga High School in 1949.
Mrs. Yonning was an office assistant at Kansas State University, retiring after over 35 years, the last 25 years at McCain Auditorium.
She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka, past member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Manhattan, and Epsilon Sigma Alpha in Manhattan.
She was a highly accomplished seamstress and enjoyed the many hours she spent knitting, crocheting and embroidering.
On October 16, 1949 in Wheaton, Kansas, she married James L. Yonning. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Nikolaus Drake Richardson on February 1, 1999 and half-brother, Lyle Erwin Wegner on September 20, 1988.
Survivors include her children, Kathryn E. Richardson (Daniel), Topeka and Wayne J. Yonning (Janet), Hopewell, VA; her sister, Arletta L. Bennett (Richard), Aurora, CO; three grandchildren, Holly M. Lowe, Brandon W. Yonning and Adam A. Yonning; two step-granddaughters, Nicolle Jack and Courtney Bornstein; six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23 at Faith Lutheran Church. Cremation will follow and private inurnment will be in Wamego Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
