Mary Elizabeth "Sue" Woody, 77, Topeka died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at a local care facility. She was born April 19, 1927 in Oklahoma City, OK ,the daughter of George and Grace Shumate Tharp.

Mary graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1945. She was a member of Church of Christ at California Acres, Topeka, Kansas.

Sue represented the image of a Godly wife as described by Solomon in Prov.31. She was a devoted wife, raising her children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. She inspired her family and others as a talented and professional artist; with a beautiful singing voice and wide ranging interests in astronomy, classical music and literature, complemented by a keen intellect and sense of humor.

She married John A. Woody, June 12, 1953 in Kansas City, MO. He survives.

Other survivors include two daughters Kyra Pehrson, Mt. View, CA; Kimber Wright, Topeka; three sons, Henry B. Woody, Lees Summit, MO; Thomas W. Woody, Brighton, IL; Glen Woody, Gladstone, MO; and 20 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 am March 5 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Interment will folllow in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mary will lie in state after 1:00 pm friday March 4 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm that evening.
