Mary Virginia Payne, 78, of Topeka, died peacefully after a brief illness, Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born March 1, 1925 in Greenville, SC, the daughter of Marguerite Perry Craig.
She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta.
She married William Payne in 1947.
Mrs. Payne was active in the Junior League of Topeka and the Junior League Garden Club. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral. She loved her church and church friends and was active in Daughters of the King. She was also active with Let's Help, and Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marguerite Craig and her beloved husband William Payne. Survivors include, her sister in law Peggy Payne Bennett, Dallas, TX her niece Lindy Bennett Pottinger and husband Paul, of Dallas, TX and nephew William Bennett and wife, Millie of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX and four grandnephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2003 at Grace Episcopal Cathedral followed by 3:00 p.m. graveside services at Mt. Hope Cemetery . Memorial contributions may be given to Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
