Mary Ellen (Dawson) Turnbull, 98, of Topeka, passed away Monday, April 20, 2020.
She was born May 22, 1921, in Graham County, Kansas, the daughter of Hubert and Bertha (Howard) Dawson. She received a Bachelor's Degree in History from Washburn University in 1947. She served in the Navy during World War II.
Mary was employed by the State of Kansas in the Reviser of Statutes Department, retiring in 1988.
She was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Hill City, Kansas.
Survivors include her son, James Turnbull and his wife, Teresa; sisters, Jean and Lois; grandchildren, Shannon, Shane, Brian, Conor, and Spencer.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Michael Turnbull.
Mary enjoyed travel, playing bridge, her exercise classes, and her professional secretaries group.
Memorial services are pending at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, and will be announced at a later date. Private interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, in Maple Hill.
