Mary Alice Stallsmith, 82 of Topeka, passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS. She was born December 1, 1926 in Parsons, KS to Harold and Mildred (Jones) Heth.
Mary graduated from Parsons High School and attended Parsons School of Cosmetology. She was a beautician at Doris Beauty Shop and later Shirley's Beauty Shop in Holton. On June 25, 1950 she married Eugene Stallsmith. They resided in Holton for 18 years before moving to Topeka in 1991. She was a member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary in Holton and a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge in Topeka. Mary was a loveable person and expressed this love to her family and many friends. Her hobbies were collecting antiques and working in her garden.
Mary is survived by her husband Eugene of the home; her son Mark Stallsmith and his wife Brenda of Coffeyville, KS; a sister Gwen Moore of Parsons, KS; a brother Harold "Bud" Heth of Rohnert Park, CA; three grandchildren Travis Magner of Topeka, Mark Ryan Stallsmith of Farmington, NM, and Hannah Nolte of Coffeyville, KS; and one great-granddaughter Paisley Nolte of Coffeyville. She was preceded in death by a daughter Karen Crook, grandson Brandon Crook and sister Margaret Richard.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mary will lie in state on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holton V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary in care of the funeral home.
