Mary Slocum, 72, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004 at a Topeka care facility. She was born on December 6, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Claire and Dorothy Ely. She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, MN. She married Oliver Slocum, was a homemaker and raised her three children in Birmingham, Michigan. She moved to Topeka in 1975. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Survivors include her father, Claire Ely of Newton, Iowa, her daughter, Cynthia McCoy of Arnold, MD, and two sons, Michael of Charlotte, NC and John of Philidelphia, PA., three grandchildren, Kelly and Katy McCoy and Claire Slocum. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Chapel at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Inurnment will take place in the Chapel of the Resurrection Columbarium.
