Mary "Kathleen" Schneider

September 22, 1916 — January 9, 2021

Mary "Kathleen" Schneider, age 104 years, passed from this world January 9, 2021 in Lawrence, Kansas.

She was born in Douglas County on September 22, 1916 to Margaret (Gibbons) and Elmer Bahnmaier.

She attended Jones District 73 grade school, Oread High School and briefly attended the University of Kansas and graduated from Lawrence Business School.

With the outbreak of World War II, Kathleen accepted a job in US Senator Clyde Reed's office in Washington DC. She moved there on her own and soon made many lifelong friends. Upon returning home, she met and married Carl A. Schneider on March 14, 1947. They soon moved to a farm near Tecumseh, KS which is still in the family.

Kathleen worked full time at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS. In addition, she helped on the farm, raised a large garden, sewed, quilted, weaved and raised her beloved iris flowers. She still found time to work at the Douglas County Fair for many years and to run for a position in the Kansas State Legislature.

Kathleen was a longtime member of the Big Springs United Methodist Church and served as its treasurer for a number of years. She was an inspiration to many in her community and was there to help in any way she could.

Kathleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl and two brothers, Max and Karl.

Kathleen is survived by her brother, Joe (Nita); son, David (Gay); grandson, John (Lexi); granddaughter, Lizzie and great granddaughter Remi.

Mom, you're with Dad now. We all love you and will never forget you. Rest peacefully.
