Mary P. Ramirez, 95 of Topeka passed away, Thursday, 9/22/2011 at her home.
She was born 9/15/1916 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Ventura and Ygnacia Monjaraz Perez.
Mrs. Ramirez was first employed at Seymour Packing Co. This was followed by employment at Santa Fe Hospital and St. Francis Hospital as a Nurse's Aide. She retired in 1981 as a Mental Health Technician at Menninger. After her retirement, she volunteered at Our Lady of Guadalupe School as an ESL tutor.
Mrs. Ramirez was best known for her love of cooking. Anyone entering her home was welcomed to her table and her Sunday morning breakfast's were enjoyed by many. Some of her neighbors commented how they loved walking by her home after Sunday Mass because of the smell of all the wonderful food being cooked.
She loved to crochet, knit and to work in her flower garden, lovingly caring for her rose bushes, and loved photographing her grandchildren in her garden. She was a whiz at working Search-A-Word puzzles up until a few months prior to her death. She was also an avid reader. She liked traveling by train, going to the East Coast, the West Coast and to Alaska.
She married Aristeo Ramirez 3/16/1931 in Torrington, WY. He preceded her in death 2/13/1986. Survivors include her children, Victoria (Wilburn) Webb, Mena, AR, Mary (Angel) Valdivia, Topeka, KS, Ygnacio (Esperanza) Ramirez, Scottsdale, AZ, Alexandra (Joe) Oliva, Topeka, KS, Ruben Ramirez, Topeka, KS; her brother Refugio Perez, 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children, Rosina, Robert and Fred Ramirez; a grandson, Vincent Ramirez; and her brother, Victor Perez.
She will lie instate after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Monday 9/27/2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth.
