Mary "Lu" Mayer, 90, of Topeka, passed away on August 30, 2019.
Mary was born on September 3, 1928 to Robert and Murrel Girndt in Abilene, KS. Mary attended schools in Newton, KS and graduated from Newton High School in 1946. Mary worked for the phone company while attending high school. She also worked in an aircraft plant in the late 40's in San Diego, CA. She later moved to Topeka and started work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator. She retired in 1988.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey Mayer; daughter, Cindy Nelson (Larry); sons, William Brady (Mariko), Michael Brady (Deanna), Shawn Brady (Sandee); sister, Gale Hale; step-children, Pamela Welsh (Dave), Wayne Mayer, and Arlin Mayer (Elisa); 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; and 9 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Timothy Brady; and sister, Roberta Barrus.
The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka. Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will host a reception immediately following.
