Mary Lou Holderman

Mary Lou Holderman, 75, of Topeka, passed away on August 8, 2007 at her home.

Mary was born March 28, 1932. She was the first born to Floyd and Opal Noller on the family homestead in Mitchell County near Glen Elder, KS.

She graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1949 and moved to Kansas City and attended the Kansas City Secretarial Institute graduating in 1951 while working for G.M.A.C.

That is where she met and married Dr. Robert Stroud. The couple relocated to Topeka in 1951. They divorced in 1969. Two daughters were born of this marriage, Linda and Laurie.

She moved to Wichita in 1972 and began her career with the Kansas Dept. of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division; Managing one of the states largest driver's license offices for 23 years.

Mary married State Representative, Jim Holderman on November 20, 1973. While the couple resided and were employed in Wichita, they maintained a second home in Woodson County on Toronto Lake, located in the scenic Flint Hills, providing the opportunity to entertain family and friends and pursue her many interests including poetry and landscape art. Mary was always accompanied by one or more of her beloved four legged companions.

They moved back to Topeka in 2003 to be closer to Mary's daughters and grandchildren.

Mary was a member of the First Congregational Church of Topeka.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, daughters, Linda Stroud and Laurie Hermesch (Jim) of Topeka, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson, brother, Gary Noller of Meeker, CO and sister, Carolyn Wright of Topeka.

Mrs. Holderman will lie in state after 8 a.m. on Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66604 where the family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home and entombment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the funeral home to the Frank and Beverly Gaines Professorship Fund, University of Kansas Cancer Center, Wichita, KS or to the Topeka Rescue Mission.
