Mary Lou Atherly, 90, of Topeka, passed away on July 26, 2018.
She was born on September 2, 1927 in Strawn, KS the daughter of Roy A. and Tracy DeLong.
She married F. Glen Atherly on November 24, 1951. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2009.
She is survived by children, Steve Atherly (Joni), Diana Wilson (Joe); Grandchildren, Jacob Wilson, Sarah Sibilsky (Alex), Laura Wilson; great-grandson, Logan Atherly; as well as a sister, Hazel Lynn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Glen Atherly; siblings, Lester DeLong, Bertha Claycamp, Roy A. DeLong, Jr., Laura Dalrymple, Merle DeLong, Wendall DeLong; as well as a Grandson, Jeff Atherly.
Mary Lou was an office manager for FHA in Burlington, KS. She was a recipient of the Federal Government Outstanding Service Award.
She had several hobbies and talents; she enjoyed writing and was a published author of four books and also taught Creative Writing classes. She was a public speaker and enjoyed being in front of people, she was proud to have written and performed in several plays. Mary Lou loved her family, and enjoyed traveling. She was a proud member of Countryside United Methodist Church since 1968 and very active.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Road, Topeka. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Private burial will take place at a later date at Bowman-Adgate Cemetery in New Strawn, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to Countryside United Methodist Church or to Coffey County Historical Society.
