Mary L. "Peg" Penry, 94, Topeka, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Midland Hospice House.
Peg was born October 14, 1917 in Vernon, TX, the daughter of Lyndall and Mary Herald. She graduated from high school in Wichita Falls, TX.
Peg enjoyed writing poetry and had four books of poetry published. She was a member of the International Platform Association. She had a radio program on Guam and a television program in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Her book, Prisms of Poetry is available in libraries in Ft. Walton Beach. She also wrote poetry for the Officer's Wives magazine. One of her poems was put to music and recorded. She has received gold and silver certificate awards from World of Poetry in Amityville, NY. Her poetry has been used for senior citizen groups.
Peg married Homer Penry 77 years ago in Wichita Falls, TX. He died in 2005. Survivors include daughters, Andrea (David) Cutler, San Jose, CA, Sherry (Glen) Thurber, Tecumseh; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
