Mary Kline

Mary Wilson Warner Kline, 77, Topeka, died Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at her home.

Mary was born June 9, 1929, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Richard Gaylord and Margaret Lucienne Falconer Warner. She lived in Indiana and Connecticut before graduating from Southwest High School in Kansas City, MO. She attended the University of Kansas and Oklahoma University, where she graduated with an art degree. While in college Mary was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and served as the National Art Society president. She worked as a salesperson for a retail department store in Tyler, Texas, as a graphic artist for an advertising agency in Corpus Christi, Texas, and as a receptionist for a law firm in Topeka.

Mary was a member of several organizations including the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni Chapter of Topeka, where she served as Corporation Board President and was named Theta of the Year in 1979, the Junior League of Topeka, and the National Society of the Colonial Dames in America.

Mary was married to Clayton Edward Kline on November 29, 1952, in Tyler, Texas. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include three children: Karen Warner Ford and her husband Mike of Holton. Annette Hollingsworth and her husband Marshall of Shawnee, and Richard Clayton Kline and his wife Carrie of Leawood; five grandchildren: Michiel Ford, Carl and Kent Hollingsworth, and Christie and Katy Kline, and two brothers Richard G. Warner Jr. of Overland Park, Kansas and John A. Warner and his wife Pat, of Dallas, Texas.

She is also survived by two very special caregivers: Sandra Sastoque and Josue Kristopher Turner of Topeka.

Mary will be remembered for her optimistic spirit during a long time of ill health. She said once that she could choose to be angry or positive about her situation and she made the choice to be positive because as she put it, "It takes a lot less energy to be happy than to be angry."

Cremation is planned. A memorial service will take place at the First Congregation Church Topeka, Kansas on Monday, September 18 at 11:00a.m. with a private family inurnment to follow.
