Mary Morrow Fergus Judge, 88, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Midland Hospice, Topeka, Kansas. She had suffered a stroke on June 9, 2007. She was born April 6, 1919 on the family farm in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Hugh and Sarah Morrow Fergus. She attended country school in Slippery Rock and graduated from Slippery Rock High School and Grove City College, Grove City, PA. She married John A. Judge on January 23, 1950.
During and after WWII, Mrs. Judge worked as a civilian for the War Department in Washington, DC and Butler, PA. After returning from Frankfurt, Germany, where her husband was stationed with the Army, she was a housewife in Johnstown, PA. After her husband's death in 1958, she and her daughters lived in Slippery Rock, PA. and later in Chippewa Falls, WI where she was employed for many years by the J.C. Penney Co. She has lived in Topeka since 1995. At the time of her death, she was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Topeka.
Survivors include her daughters Sara (Bob) Keckeisen of Topeka and Marian (Jim) Chattin of Devils Lake, ND; grandchildren Katie and John Keckeisen and Jimmy and Mary Chattin; a brother, James Fergus of Slippery Rock; and sisters Helen Barnes of Chippewa Falls, WI, Ruth Johnson and Irene Fergus of New Castle, PA, and Jean Holben of Pittsburgh, PA.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm, Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church. Private family inurnment will be at the Slippery Rock Cemetery, Slippery Rock, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Windstar Land Conservancy, Windstar Foundation, PO Box 656, Snowmass, CO 81654 or Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
