Mary P. Hoffman, 93, of Topeka, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2019.
She was born June 4, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Irving and Lillian (VonLiski) Palm. She received a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1948 and a Bachelor's of Science (education) from Winona State College in 1967.
Mary began her elementary school teaching career in 1967 in Minnesota City, Minnesota. When she moved to Topeka in 1970, she became an elementary teacher for USD 501, teaching at Whitson Elementary. She treasured her memories and lifelong friendships from Whitson.
Mary was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, serving on numerous committees. She was also a part of Delta Kappa Gamma, KNEA, Delta Delta Delta alumni, American Association of University Women, Shepherd's Center of Topeka and the Topeka Needlework Guild.
Mary can be described as a heartfelt woman who lived life fully for her entire 93 years. She loved to travel, write letters, do counted cross stitch, play bridge, collect glass apples and enjoy time with her family.
Mary married Darrell G. Hoffman on April 30, 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Darrell preceded her in death on March 27, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Mary Beth Winter, sister, Margaret (Palm) Curtis, and brothers, Irving H. Palm, Jr. and David Alden Palm. Mary is survived by sons, David A. (Cathy) Hoffman and Joel H. (Marsha) Hoffman; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2021 W. 29th St., Topeka. Private interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, in Topeka.
