Mary Haflich

Mary E. Haflich, 85, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 at Westwood Manor.

Mary was born in Topeka, KS on June 22, 1922, the daughter of Calvin and Grace Wanner.

She attended Topeka schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1940.

Mary married Wally Haflich on Nov. 19, 1954 in Topeka. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 1979.

Mary was a bookkeeper for many years, eventually retiring from Design Forum.

She was an avid bowler, skilled bridge player, a devoted Shrine wife and member of the Nobelles of Arab Shrine.

Survivors include one son, Jeff and his wife, Bert Haflich; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Kelsey Haflich; one sister, Judy Wanner; and two nephews, Bernie Wanner, Jr. and his wife, Jean; all of Topeka, and Greg Earnest and his wife, Romona of Albuquerque, NM.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wally, July 1984 and brother, Bernie Wanner.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mary will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 21.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Arab Shrine Temple Travel Fund, 1305 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612.
