Mary Frances Law, 88, Lawrence,Kansas, formerly of Graham, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015 surrounded by her children.
She was born September 21, 1926, in Kennett, Missouri, the daughter of Robert Thomas and Ruby Mozell (Crutchfield) Paul. She graduated from Kennett High School in 1944 and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri in 1949, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and met her future husband, Robert James Law. From 1966 until 1969, she attended Fort Hays State University, where she earned her Master's Degree.
Mary enjoyed playing bridge, dancing, sewing, knitting and crocheting, scrabble, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, big band music and the BeeGee's. She traveled to many places both within the United States, from Wyoming, where she worked at a resort and skinned a bear, to Los Angeles as a newlywed, to working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C, as well as overseas, visiting Spain and Belgium.
Mary was a Spanish teacher at Ellis High School, Ellis, Kansas from 1969 until 1971 and Roosevelt & Harrison Jr. High in Great Bend, Kansas from 1971 until 1977. In 1977, she began work as a librarian for Graham High School in Graham, Texas until her retirement on May 31, 1992.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was an accomplished bridge player, achieving the status of Duplicate Bridge Life Master.
On September 9, 1949, she married Robert James Law in Cody, Wyoming. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Robert Paul.
Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Roberta Law, Lawrence, Kansas and Mary Katherine Law (Leslie B. Barni), New York, New York; son, Michael Paul Law (Anne), Lawrence, Kansas; one granddaughter, Talulah Mei Barni, New York, New York; sister-in-law, Lou Paul, Austin, Texas and special family friend, Dennis Bowers, Lincoln, Nebraska.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Kate Lowder, LaDonna Landazuri, Visiting Nurses Association and the staff at the Windsor of Lawrence for the love, care and companionship they provided.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30 at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont St., Lawrence, KS; with memorial services beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett, Missouri at a later date.
Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
