Mary Augusto

Mary Augusto, 69, of Berryton, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 7, 1939 in Hutchinson, the daughter of T.C. and Lucia Hernandez Martinez. She graduated from Lewis High School in Lewis, KS and attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. Mary resided in Hutchinson from 1957-1972 where she was employed at the Phillips News Service. She then moved to Salina where she resided from 1972-1984 and was employed by the Saline Co. Sheriff's office. Mary was a member of the Salina Sacred Heart School Board and the Salina GI Forum. Mary moved to Topeka in 1984 and was employed by Conseco Inc. until taking a medical retirement in 2002. She was a member of Our Lady Of Guadalupe Church and LULAC Counsel No. 11071. Mary married Antonio Augusto on April 23, 1960 in Hutchinson. He survives. Other survivors include their children, Anthony J. (Brenda) Augusto of Lawrence, Monica L. Augusto of Topeka, Linda V. (James) Anguiano of Berryton, John S. (Kimberly) Augusto of Lawrence, 13 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, three sisters, Eleanor Navarro, Beatrice Almanza and Jesse "Jay" Viegra all of Hutchinson and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by twin daughters, Gloria and Annette Augusto in 1962 and three brothers, Joseph Martinez, Concho Martinez and Raymond Martinez. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mary will lie in state from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mary Augusto Memorial Fund c/o Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
