Mary Ann Flickinger Bonebrake, 87, passed away June 29, 2016, surrounded by her children and loved ones. She was born September 8, 1928, in Pretty Prairie, Kansas to Amos and Ida Flickinger. She and seven brothers grew up and attended grades 1 through 12 in Pretty Prairie. Mary Ann attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska where she met Boyd Bonebrake. After two years of college they were married June 13th, 1948 in Pretty Prairie.
Mary Ann was a homemaker, and as she and Boyd moved from town to town because of their ministry, she held a variety of other jobs. After moving to Hiawatha, Kansas in 1980, she got her real estate license. For more than 50 years in ministry Mary Ann remained very active in the churches where they served. She was involved in the UCC Camping program both as counselor and director for 20 years. She also was a PEO member and held most of the offices during her time there, and was a delegate to several state and international conventions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Ida Flickinger, three brothers, Virgil, Elmer, and Homer, and her husband, Boyd. Survivors include her four children, Stephen (Marilyn) of Lawrence, KS; Bruce (Carol) of Perry, KS; Brent of Topeka, KS and Marcia (Don) of Saint Joseph, MO. She also leaves behind four brothers, Melvin of Pretty Prairie, KS; Calvin of Phoenix, AZ; Chester of Denver, CO; and Ted of Hutchinson, KS. Also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Southern Hills Mennonite Church in Topeka, Kansas on July 8 at 9:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
