Mary Alice (Jackson) Freeman
Mary Alice Freeman, 86, Topeka, died on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Midland Hospice House Topeka.
Mary was born October 12, 1927 in Elmont, Kansas; the daughter of Chester and Grace (Lowe) Jackson. She graduated from Topeka High School (1945). She retired from American States Insurance. She was a charter member of the TOPEKS Camping Club, member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Mary married Edward M Small August 1945, divorced. Mary married Leonard Ross Freeman on September 30, 1961 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include her son Robert (Sherry) Small, Carbondale; daughter Patricia (Mike) Jantzen, Platte City, Mo; sister Dorothy Ely, Grove Ok; brother Dale (Helen) Jackson, Topeka. Grandchildren: Joseph Dean (Rhonda) Kincaid, Kansas City; Elaine Kincaid, North Carolina; Melissa (Adrian) Clinger, Sugar City, Id; Steven (Shelly) May, Ottawa, Ks; Krystal (Frank) Heiman, Scranton, Ks; Amanda (John) Griffis, Deridder, La. Great-grandchildren: (Elaine's) Austin and Aaron Warrick; Jaden Ross Fletchall; (Melissa's) Mikhael, Austin, Jordan, Shaylie, Braxton, and Hallye Clinger; (Steven's) Trenton, Tucker and Kaylee May; (Krystal's) Samuel and Eli Heiman, (Amanda's) Nathaniel and Noah Griffis; (Michael) Becky and Lizzy Small. Great Great-Grandchildren: Harper and Penelope Warrick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Edna Mae Nevins, grandson Michael Small, and step-son Bobby Freeman.
Mary and Leonard enjoyed traveling and camping all over the USA, playing cards and visiting family and friends.
A memorial ceremony will be 2 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan, Topeka, Ks 66605. Mary was cremated. Private interment will be a Half-Day Cemetery, Elmont, Ks. Memorial contributions may be made to Church or St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
