Mary Alden Clarke, 97, Topeka, passed away Sunday May 10. 2015.
Mary was born May 1, 1918 in Uniontown, KS in Bourbon County, the daughter of Dr. Elmer E. and Margia O. (Stroud) Ramsey.
She attended Potwin Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, Topeka High School, Washburn University, and graduated from Kansas State Teachers College, now Emporia State University, with a B.S.in Education.
Mary taught school for two years in Atchison and 37 years for School District #501, Topeka. She was an Antique Collector and Appraiser.
Mary was a member of First Presbyterian Church, T.A.R.T.A. (retired Teachers), the 1918 Club, American Legion Unit #400, A.A.R.P. (Shawnee County Chapter 2367), A Lady of the Arab Shrine, Nomads Camping Club of the Shrine, and an associate member of the KS-MO Winnebago camping group. Mary loved antiquing all her life.
Mary married Charles H. Alden on June 13, 1943. He died May 23, 1972. She married George W. Clarke on January 21, 1989. He died July 26, 1998. Mary is survived by one sister, Helen Lois Grizzard, San Antonio, TX; and three step-children, Georgia Ann Clarke, Doris Worthington, both of Topeka and Bill Clarke, Prescott, AZ.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the chapel 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, Capper Foundation or the Helping Hands Humane Society.
