Mary A. (Rothers) Ward, 106, of Brewster Place in Topeka, passed away May 30, 2012.
She was born September 11, 1905 in Coal Creek, Pottawattamie County KS, the daughter of Bernard & Teresa (Nolte) Rothers.
Mary was a graduate of Soldier High School and Emporia Teacher's College. After graduation she taught in a one room school houses near Netawaka and Anderson, KS.
She retired from Stormont Vail Hospital in 1972.
Mrs. Ward was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, involved in various activities, as well as the Koinonia circle, Women's Auxillary #37, International Typographical Union, and Sigma Alpha.
Mary married George T. Ward on July 3, 1931, he precedes her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet (Bill) Asbury of Tumwater, WA; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Carol Ward and Janice Ward, of Topeka.
She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Gene and Lee Ward.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS. Mary was cremated and her remains are interred at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
