Marvin Harold (Doc) Wilson, 81, passed into his eternal life with his Lord and Savior Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Health Care Resort in Topeka, Kansas surrounded by loving family. He was born July 2, 1938 in Ottawa, KS, the son of Charles Christopher and Wilmenta Mae (Reese) Wilson.

After graduating from Ottawa High School in 1956, Marvin attended Ottawa University where he received a BS degree in 1960. He then received his M.D. degree from Howard University Medical College in Washington DC in 1964. His Internship was completed in 1965 at St Francis Hospital in Wichita, Ks. He then completed his Residency in 1969 as the Chief Surgical Resident in the Tucson Hospital Medical Education Program in Tucson, AZ.

Marvin served his country as a Major in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1971, where he served as a surgeon in Anchorage, AK.

Following his service in the military, in 1971 he started his medical practice in Topeka, KS, Marvin H Wilson MD PA, as a solo practitioner, performing general surgery with a sub-specialty in peripheral vascular surgery through 1989. Seeing a need for early diagnosis of disease, from 1978 – 1997 he established, owned and managed the first non-invasive vascular laboratory between St Louis and Denver , the Advanced Diagnostic Center in Topeka, KS. In this practice he trained and mentored vascular Technologists and provided full service mobile non-invasive vascular testing to hospitals in northeastern Kansas, receiving ICAVL accreditation in 1993. He also recognized the need for early detection of prostate cancer utilizing advanced screening procedures, leading to the establishment of the Prostate Cancer Detection Center in Topeka, KS, from 1991-1997. After a short retirement from active practice to do research related to his passion for preventing disease and to pursue other entrepreneurial interests, Marvin provided office patient care and office management for Nason Lui M.D. P.A. from 2011-2014 and subsequently patient care with Nason Lui M.D. for Stormont Vail Hospital from 2014-2017.

In addition to his love of medicine and health, he frequently expressed his life aim and goal."To whom much is given, much is required. I desire to make a difference, large or small, known or unknown, in the lives of others." This desire led to many entrepreneurial businesses, service to his family, his University, community and mentoring to many individuals.

He was founder and owner of KTPK FM Radio Station in Topeka, KS, 1974-1980. He was co-owner with his wife of Winners Unlimited, a company that developed networks of business owners from 1986 to his death. From 2010 to his death he was owner of "Dr Marvin H. Wilson", that provided supplements and advice.

One of his greatest passions was his university. The Chancellor, Kevin Eichner expressed it this way. "Marvin served on the Ottawa University Board of Trustees from 1978-2009 in several positions, most notably as Chair of the Board from 1994-1996. He was leader of the board's Facilities Committee for many years, and prior to joining the board, was Director of the Alumni Association. An outstanding student, he was a great three sport athlete himself and a steadfast supporter of Braves' Athletics. He was a beloved and respected member of the Ottawa University Braves Hall of Fame and was inducted into that body in 1990. Marvin was instrumental in the design of and supervision of the Braves Hall of Fame space in the Hull Center and was very excited about the new BAHOF space in the Hull Family Athletic Complex on the first floor of the new press box and VIP room at Advent Field. He loved beautifying the Ottawa campus and his handprints are all over the lovely and functional campus we enjoy today. Most recently, after his retirement from the Board in 2009, Marvin served faithfully on the Chancellor's Council. "

His Ottawa Community honored him in 1985 by awarding him the Recipient of Ottawa Black History Human Service Award. In 1997 his high school awarded him the Ottawa High School Wall of Honor Member.

Marvin came to faith in Jesus Christ as an adult and continued to grow and worship at Topeka Bible Church since 1998. His hobbies and interests were many. Having lettered in three sports in both high school and his university, he continued his love of track, basketball, football and softball, by supporting and mentoring his children and grandchildren. He looked for opportunities to mentor so many in their careers, and interests. He loved classic Model A cars. Over his adult life he owned and flew three airplanes, enjoying taking family and friends on trips.
