Marvin Springer, 81, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born on December 12, 1925 in Manhattan, the son of Lonnie and Doris Springer.
In 1943, Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in WWII.
On March 7, 1946, he married Gwen Schoefield. She survives of the home. Also surviving are their children, Steve Springer and wife, Kris of Manhattan, John Springer and wife, Diane of Osage City, Sandy Plank of Topeka; grandchildren, Mandy Springer of Nashville, TN, Dan Springer and wife, Trey of Wamego, Amy Springer of Las Vegas, NV, Darrin Plank of Topeka; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Burk, Reese, Jade, Cheyenne, Raine, and Elijah; brother, Neal Springer and sister, Donnis Springer.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Shawn Springer and his brother, Melvin Springer.
After 47 years of service, Marvin retired as a lineman from Southwestern Bell Telephone. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Patriot Guard, Brothers of the Pioneers, VFW Post 1786, and CWA. Marvin was an avid fisherman and hunting and enjoyed woodworking.
A memorial service for Mr. Springer will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sat. July 7, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
