Martin "Marty" Palm, 93, of Topeka, passed away, Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Plaza West Care Center.
He was born August 25, 1914 in Coldwater, Kansas the eldest son of John William and Alice Winter Palm. Mr. Palm received his Bachelors Degree and subsequently his Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1938 and served as President of his professional fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi. He began work on his PhD in Economics before enlisting as an Officer in the Navy from 1941 – 1946.
Martin taught at Sayre Junior College in Oklahoma and after the war was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.
Due to health concerns, Mr. Palm resettled in Topeka in the early 1950's and became a sales representative for Knapp Brothers Shoe Company and Vernon Advertising Specialty Company. He retired in 1985.
Along with his wife, he was a longtime member of First Southern Baptist Church.
Mr. Palm married Margery Springer December 31, 1954 in Topeka, KS. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Tammy Brading and her husband Terry, and a granddaughter all of Topeka. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
He will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
