Martin D. Woner, 87, of Topeka, died on Thursday, May 7, 2015.
Martin was born January 7, 1928 in a farm house near Rock, Kansas and grew up on the family farm. His parents were George Leland and Edna (Vincent) Woner. The Woner family homesteaded in Cowley County, Kansas in April, 1870.
Martin graduated from Douglass High School in 1945. He attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1953. He then spent two years in the United States Air Force as a Controller being honorably discharged in December, 1955. In 1956 and 1957, he worked as a County Agricultural Agent in Seward County, Kansas. In March, 1958 the family relocated to Hutchinson, Kansas where Martin worked 29 years for the Cessna Fluid Power Division. 1988 brought a move to Minnesota where he worked three years for Eaton Corporation retiring in 1991 before moving to Topeka.
On August 31, 1952, Martin married Lorice Ann Miller in Winfield, Kansas. Lorice Ann survives. Other survivors include son, Bruce Woner and Pat Reeder of Topeka and grandchildren, Ben and Laura; and, son Kent Woner and Julie Woner of Edmond, Oklahoma and grandchildren Charles, April and Emily. Martin's brother, Verne, passed away in 2009.
A celebration of Martin's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 11 at First Christian Church, 1880 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka; the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Private inurnment will take place at Highland Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
