Martha Zimmerman

Martha M. Zimmerman of Topeka passed away on August 23, 2008, at Stormont Vail Hospital. She was born April 10, 1930 in Lawrence, the daughter of Susie and Everett Boles. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence in 1947 then went to work for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She married James E. Zimmerman in 1950 and moved to Wichita in 1954. They moved to Topeka in 1976. Martha's hobbies included gardening, especially her love of African Violets and Iris. She also enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren. She is survived by her husband James; son James F. and wife Diana and children Abby and T.J.; and daughter Janis and husband Alex Escandon and children Andrew and Sara.

Martha will lie in state beginning at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 26th at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Family will greet friends from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 27th at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.
