Martha “Ann” McLain, 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on July 18, 2024, at Midland Care Hospice in Topeka.
She was born on August 22, 1937, the daughter of Walter and Olive (Ely) Reh in Ottawa Kansas.
Ann graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1955.
On September 6, 1958, Ann was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” McLain. In 1963 the family moved to Ottawa. Together Bob and Ann raised two children. Bob preceded her in death on June 8, 1989.
Ottawa locals have known her as a manager of Butlers Music Store for many years.
Ann was very active in the Ottawa community. Over the years, she has been a community leader for Silver Leaf 4-H for ten years; a knitting and food leader; President of Ottawa BPW; President of Franklin County Unit ASC; President of Soroptimist International; as well as many other offices and clubs. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was also the secretary of St. John's Cemetery board.
After moving to Topeka in 1999, Ann volunteered at Stormont Vail Health, was a member of the Prairie Flint Hills chapter of DAR and worked part-time as a receptionist in the JC Penney’s hair salon.
Ann enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading and all types of puzzles. As her vision began to fail, she found great enjoyment in audiobooks and reconnecting with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents, Walter and Olive Reh and her sister Evelyn Cochran.
Ann is survived by her children Keith McLain and Elizabeth Ann McLain, and grandchildren Kaleb McLain, Taylor McLain, Dylan McLain and Jordan McLain.
Memorials are suggested to Helping Hands Humane Society of Topeka.
A graveside service will be held on Monday July, 22, 2024 at 11 am at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas.
