Martha Delphine Kirk
Martha Delphine Kirk, 98, Topeka, formerly of Salina and Concordia, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Aldersgate Village. She was born Nov. 30, 1905, in Frankfort, the daughter of Albert and Hanna Elizabeth Backman, Mrs. Kirk lived in Concordia and Salina before moving to Topeka in 1979. She taught in a one-room school in Marshall County and was also a seamstress. She had been active in the Methodist Church in Concordia and was a member of the Brookwood Covenant Church in Topeka. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was the last of 10 siblings. She married George L. Kirk on Nov. 16, 1932, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1977. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Nelson, Topeka; two sons, James P. Kirk, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Gary L. Kirk, Orange Park, Fla.; four grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. Private services will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritan Fund, Aldersgate Village, 7220 Asbury Drive, Topeka, 66614 or Meals on Wheels, 1500 SW 10th St, Topeka, 66604.
