Mark January Elmer, age 66, of Tecumseh, KS, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024. There will not be a funeral service at this time. His wishes were to have a celebration of life which will be determined at a later date. Contributions in his name may be made to a Veteran’s charity of your choice. Mark personally wrote the following for your enjoyment.
Jesus Wept, I have been asked to write my own obituary. That being said “Hold my beer”! As many of you know this probably means I lost my battle with bladder cancer, that has been going on since June of 2022. So, the easy stuff first. For those that could make it, thank you for coming. I hope you can enjoy yourselves and reconnect with old friends and family. Saying goodbye is one thing, but we don’t have to be morbid about it. We all have one thing in common. We miss me, as I miss you!
I am proceeded in death by my parents; Jack Taylor Elmer and Frances Tyrrell Stevens Elmer both of San Jose CA. I am survived by my wife Lois Louise Grandstaff Elmer, daughter, Whitney Brianne Elmer Volpert, Whitney’s husband Matthew, their children Aidan and Nadia and daughter, Erin Nicole Elmer Stapel, Erin’s husband Malcomb, their children Cordelia, Ryder, Temperance, and Halden. My sisters Kim Elmer Hargrove, Karen Elmer Hinson Barlogio and a plethora of nieces and nephews.
I enlisted in the USAF reserve in 1977 after graduating from Salinas High School in Salinas CA. and flew out of Travis for the next 8 years. In 1982 I married the love of my life, Lois. In 1985 we decided that “California is not the place to be, so we loaded up the car and headed to Tecumseh”! I spent two years in base training with the 190th and transferred to Security for the last 16 years. I worked 25 years for Kmart, and so far, 12 years for Saint Francis Hospital. So, if you are here, I probably know you from one of those places, just a guess. Many of you stopped being friends long ago and became family. Most of the music in the background was picked out by me as I liked it, some was picked by others. I hope you enjoy it. A short prayer and we are done!
