Marjorie M. Huber, 99, of Topeka, passed away March 11, 2014, at a local hospital. She was born March 16, 1914, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Herbert Allen and Grace (Burger) Davis.
She was a 1931 graduate of Emporia High School and 1939 graduate of Emporia State Teachers College. Marjorie taught 33 years in Kansas, starting in a one room country school house, including Neosho Rapids, Blue Rapids, Hiawatha, Topeka, and Tecumseh South Elementary School. She retired in 1976 and had lived in Topeka since 1960.
On November 30, 1940, in Council Grove, Kansas, she married Lester A. Huber. After retirement, they spent 19 winters in Mission, Texas. They were very happy until his death on January 31, 2004. Surviving her is a son, Anthony "Tony" Huber of Topeka.
Marjorie was a charter member of Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. She was one of those special people who made those around her more comfortable. She never let her own difficulties take away her compassion for others and very much enjoyed other people's company. She also had many of her own interests, which helped her to stay busy after retirement. As a mother, Marjorie always did her best to help her son anytime he was in need. Those who knew Marjorie will miss her greatly, until they meet again in heaven.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
