Marjorie E. (Jones) Barton, 87, of Topeka, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010.
Marjorie was born April 10, 1923 in Bloomington, Indiana; daughter of Oliver and Mary Margaret (Ritter) Jones. She graduated from Bloomington High School and St. Joseph Junior College, St. Joseph, MO.
She married R. Edgar Barton June 6, 1945 in Indianapolis, IN.
Marjorie worked at JCPenny's for many years. She was a Girl Scout Leader for both of her daughters' troops from 1958-1963. Marjorie was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church, St. Joseph, Nucomers, Topeka and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed ballroom dancing with Edgar and participating in activities at Atria Senior Living.
Marjorie is survived by her husband Edgar, Topeka; daughters Linda Barton and her husband George Fischer, Warsaw, MO; and Janet Thompson, Fort Worth, TX; two grandchildren Sara and Cody Thompson; a brother Robert Jones, Huntsville, AL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2010 at West Lawn Memorial Garden, Topeka. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
