Marjorie Hale, 85, of Eudora, died on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Medicalodges Nursing Home.
Marjorie was born on February 5, 1928 in Topeka to Fredrick and Mildred (Steinkamp) Steinmeyer. She attended Topeka Lutheran School as a child and graduated from Topeka High School.
Marjorie was married to Werner Brockmeier in 1948 in Topeka; he preceded her in death in 1956. She was remarried to Forrest Hale in 1964 in Topeka; he preceded her in death in 1992.
For many years, Marjorie was the secretary for Topeka Lutheran School and a homemaker, raising her two children. She was very active as a volunteer for the Stormont Vail Surgical Unit and the YWCA Building Blocks program. Marjorie spent many of her summer breaks camping with her family and taking extended trips, many of which were memorialized in her journals. She loved to work in the garden, growing vegetables, flowers, and herbs. Until recently, she was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she served on the Lutheran Womens Service Guild.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy McKee and Bruce McKee of Lawrence; one son, Craig Brockmeier of Bartlesville, OK; four grandchildren, Andrew McKee of Crested Butte, CO and Alex, Noah, and Maria McKee of Lawrence; one great-granddaughter, Kohana and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and by three sisters, Laura Jean Pierce, Ruth Thurman, and Lucille Casebier.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave., Topeka. A memorial service for Marjorie will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Medicalodges Eudora, 1415 Maple St. in Eudora. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medicalodges Activity Fund, c/o Medicalodges Eudora.
