Marion N. Halbett, 88, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Rossville Health Care & Rehabilitation. She was born on June 23, 1919 in Philomath, OR, the daughter of Henry C. and Elsie Mathany Tatom. She graduated from Oregon State University Magna Cum Laude. A member of the Womens Army Corp, she served in the Pentagon, Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during WWII. She was employed by the YWCA before retiring. She also directed the Menninger Bible Courses, a national four-year Bible study course. She was a member of Community Church where she served as an adult Sunday School teacher, among other positions. S/Sgt. Marion Tatom married S/Sgt. Gerald L. Halbett on November 28, 1943 in Philomath, OR. He survives. Other survivors include three sons, Stephen L. Halbett and wife, Yvonne of Topeka, David L. Halbett and wife, Sally of Seattle, WA, Daniel J. Halbett and wife, Aleen of Topeka, eleven grandchildren, Joshua, Misti, Daniel J. II, Christine, Jacob, James, Brynna, Connor, Allyson, Taylor and Gavin. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Community Church. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Marion will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. The casket will remain closed.
