Marion "Mac" Dean McDowell, 79, of Maple Hill, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011.
Mac was born January 16, 1932, in Meadville, Missouri, son of Alvin Neil and Margaret Grace (McNinch) McDowell. He served in the US Army from 1951-1954. Mac married Verma "Dean" Smith on August 23, 1952, in South Carolina. He worked as a fire fighter for the City of Topeka, retiring in 1992 as a Battalion Chief. Mac was a co-owner and operated Car Mar Enterprises from 1969-1992. After retirement, Mac enjoyed farming, fishing, and working for McGivern Construction.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Mac is survived by a son, James (Shirley) McDowell, Topeka, a grandson, Adam Flagg and fiancée, Amy Carson, Topeka.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. Mac will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
