Marion Claude Chase, 83, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011.
Claude Chase was born on February 6, 1928, at Fairview, KS, son of Floyd and Frances (Porter) Chase. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1946. Claude served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Alaska. He joined the Topeka Police Dept. in 1953, retiring in 1981. Claude was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police, City Retirees Group and The American Legion Post 400. He enjoyed volunteer work for the Friends of Eisenhower State Park at Melvern Lake and spending winters in south Texas.
Claude was preceded in death by his parents and son, Steve Chase. Claude is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marilyn; son, Bruce Chase; step-daughters, Marsha (Terry) Holmer, Karolin (Michael) Cooper, Patty Dunn, and Donna (J.) Fitzpatrick; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Hazel McKee and Millie Reaser.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Claude will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Helping Hands Humane Society or Cotton-O'Neil Cancer Center c/o Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
