Marilyn C. Rownd Jensen, 81, of Topeka, passed peacefully away Monday, August 15, 2016 at her home.
She was born June 25, 1935 in Liberty, NE, the daughter of Howard and Anna (Kelle) Rownd.
In 1952, Marilyn began teaching in a one room school in rural Barneston, Nebraska. She primarily taught in Scandia, Belleville and Cuba Kansas. Marilyn finished her career teaching reading at Topeka High and Chase Middle School.
Her life priorities were her family and her church. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards, gardening, hand sewing and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Melanie Black (Thomas) of Pratt, KS; a son Jay D. Jensen (Chantel) of Massachusetts; 5 grandchildren, Eren Jensen, Brenna Jensen, Victoria Black, Abigail Black and Austin Black; a sister, Janice Meredith of Pratt, KS and two brothers, Jerrell and Robert Rownd of Wymore, NE.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Clark; brother-in-law, Laverne Meredith; and two nieces, Patty Schooler and Donanna Sommerville.
Mrs. Jensen will lie in state after 2:00 pm, Monday, August 22, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW. 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604., and will lie in state one hour prior to the service Tuesday, August 23 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka ,KS 66604. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday at the church with burial to follow at 3:00 pm at Blue Springs Cemetery, Blue Springs, NE.
