Marilyn Alberg

February 25, 1926 — September 7, 2022

Marilyn Gladys (Johnson) Alberg, 96, Overland Park, KS, formerly from Topeka, KS, passed peacefully at Overland Park Regional Medical Center on September 7, 2022.

She was born February 25, 1926 in Miller, KS, daughter of Ernest and Cora Johnson. She graduated from Osage City High School in 1944. She obtained her teaching certificate from C of E in Emporia, KS, and taught school for 1 year in a one room schoolhouse.

Mrs. Alberg retired from Southwestern Bell/AT&T in 1989 after 33 years of service as a telephone operator and administrative assistant. She was a lifetime member of Southwestern Bell Pioneers and proud union member of telephone communication workers of America.

On January 16, 1949, she married Walter Clemens Alberg in Scranton, KS. He passed away September 2, 1999. Together they resided in Topeka, Kansas their whole married lives.

Mrs. Alberg was 50 plus year member of First Congregational Church, formerly Seabrook Congregational, Topeka, KS. She was a prominent member of the annual Christmas cookie sale, baking dozens each year. She was also in charge of the nursery and helped with Sunday school. Marilyn made many quilts for the Doorstep program in Topeka.

Mrs. Alberg was also preceded in death by a grandson, Geoffrey Wilson in 1998, son in law Gary Wilson, February of 2022, and mother, father and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include daughters Sandra Gustafson, Lenexa, Stephanie Wilson, Overland Park, Sally Alberg (Terry Harvey) Kansas City, KS and son Scott Alberg (Marilyn) Pratt, KS, seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and three brothers as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Penwell-Gabel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Scranton Cemetery in Scranton at 2:00 p.m.
