Marie Edna (Webb) Shirk, 94, wife of Henry L. Shirk, Thorton Place, Topeka, KS, passed away Monday evening after a prolonged stay in Lexington Park Nursing Home in Topeka. Mrs. Shirk was incapacitated and ultimately died of conditions brought about by Alzheimer's Disease following a fall and a hip fracture requiring a long period of convalescence.
Prior to her retirement and relocation to Sun City, AZ, Mrs. (Webb) Shirk had been employed by The Capper Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Mrs. Shirk's first marriage was to Roy E. Webb (deceased), Topeka.
During her retirement years in Sun City, AZ, Mrs. Shirk became an accomplished artist and many of her paintings are revered by family members. Mrs. Shirk had been a photo retoucher in Topeka for Scott Foley.
Surviving are husband, Henry L. Shirk, son Steven R. Webb, Topeka, and daughter Reva E. Ellis, Bartlett, TN; grandchildren Kelly R. Eiseman, Wichita, KS, Rhea L. Stuart, Burlington, KS, Renee L. Kaiser, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Jennifer Davis, Overland Park, KS. Mrs. Shirk had eight great grandchildren who will miss her greatly. Other surviving family includes one sister, Erma Wright, Phoenix, AZ and two brothers, Clyde Kelly, Ada, KS and Howard Kelly of Barnard, KS. Preceding Marie in death were sisters, Florence Jones, Barnard, KS and Hazel Palmer, Sun City, AZ.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2007, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka, KS. Marie will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
