Marie L. Sherrard

Marie Louise Sherrard, 89, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011.

Marie was born November 6, 1921 in Great Bend, the daughter of Oscar and Lena (Marchand) Brewer. She graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Kansas State University, McPherson College Summer School, U.S.C., California Summer School, Emporia College Correspondence School and received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Washburn University.

She taught at Page City, a consolidated school; Central Grade School in Holton and at Randolph and Lundgren Grade Schools in Topeka for a total of 41 years.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Chapter GK, P.E.O.,KARPS and TARPS, retired teacher's organizations and a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Marie was married to Val Gene Sherrard, a former diesel supervisor for Santa Fe Railroad on May 17, 1942. He passed away in 1965. Survivors include nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Marie will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
