On March 31, 2025, Marie Eubank passed away after a long and active life of 99 years and 4 months.
Marie Florence Rigdon Eubank was born in Gladstone, New Mexico on November 22, 1925 to Edwin W. and Sadie (Pirtle) Rigdon. After the untimely death of her father in 1926, Marie traveled by covered wagon with her mother and older brother Donald to Kansas. Her mother married George Covey and the family made their home in Byers, KS. Marie graduated from Byers High School in 1943. Following graduation she went to work at the airbase in Pratt, KS. It was in Pratt that she met Lawrence E. Eubank; they married on January 9, 1947. In addition to being a homemaker, during their marriage Marie helped at Eubank Oil Co., (the Derby gas station formerly located at Stout St. and Hwy 54) and worked at KP&L. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, making ceramics and candles, quilting, traveling in their RV, baking apple pies, playing bingo and dice and doing missionary work for the Indians. Following Lawrence’s death in 1996, she had a flock of close friends that met for daily breakfast at McDonalds, occasional dinners at the Elks, weekly games of chicken-foot and other adventures. In 2020 she moved from Pratt to Brewster Place in Topeka, KS where she continued to be a game enthusiast.
She is survived by her 3 sons: John (Janet) of Wichita, KS, Steve (Evelyn) of Silver Lake, KS, Robert (Yvonne) of Owasso, OK; 7 grandchildren: Jason (Heather), Jena (Steve) Cantwell, Sam (Kelly), Emily Eubank, Grant (Kerry), Kyle (Stacy) and Amanda Eubank; 6 great-grandchildren: Olivia (Luke) Winter, Tess Eubank, Avery Cantwell, Elizabeth Eubank, Raegan Eubank and Cooper Eubank. Marie had an incredible artistic nature which was evident in the many crafts she mastered. She was strong willed and met the challenges of life with determination and fortitude. Above all else her family was her greatest source of joy. She will be greatly missed.
