Marianne Elisabeth Bloesch, February 13, 1923 – July 29, 2021
Marianne passed away peacefully at Brewster Care Center in Topeka last Thursday. Marianne was born in Zofingen, Switzerland, the first daughter of Dr. Edward Bloesch and Margaret Kessler Bloesch, who had moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma during the oil boom. She grew up in Tulsa and went first to Monticello College in Illinois and then to Washington University in St. Louis.
As a young woman, she spent her summers as a counsellor at a Girl Scout camp in Oklahoma, teaching horse riding and a variety of crafts; she was skilled in leatherwork and carpentry. After her degree in occupational therapy, she got a job with the Veteran's Administration in Fayetteville, Arkansas. After several years, she moved to Topeka, where she spent the rest of her career as an occupational therapist at the VA.
In 1969, she bought a house on Orleans Street, where she pursued her hobbies of gardening and antique collecting. In 2015, she moved to Brewster Place, where she was a much loved member of the community. Predeceased by her sister Gretel Marchbanks (Corvallis, OR), Marianne is survived by her sister Heidi Johnson (Kenosha, WI), her cousin Christine Caliandro (Santa Rosa, CA), niece Dru Marchbanks (Corvallis, OR), nephews Howard Marchbanks (Corvallis, OR), Phillip Marchbanks (Portland, OR), Sören Johnson (Amsterdam, Netherlands), and a grand-nephew, Stefan Johnson (Amsterdam, Netherlands).
