Marian Alice Cagle, 99, Topeka, passed away on Thurs., March 20, 2008 after a brief illness.
Marian was born near Dover, KS on May 4, 1908, the daughter of Jacob A. and Olive M. (Jones) Drake.
She graduated from Topeka High School in 1927 and the University of Kansas in 1931.
Marian taught school in Oketo, Moscow and Newton, Kansas and Colorado before moving to San Diego. She worked for the Tribune in San Diego, where she met and married Wilmer D. (Al) Cagle, a widower with three sons. They were married in 1948.
After retirement she and Al enjoyed traveling, camping and square dancing. Always active and an avid history buff, Marian's hobbies included cooking, sewing, bird watching and KU basketball.
When Al passed away in 1987 she moved to Paonia, CO residing there until returning to Kansas in 2005.
Marian was active in the United Methodist Church in Paonia. She belonged to the Retired Teachers Association and the KU Alumni Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al, step-son, Charles Cagle; brothers, Frank M. Drake and Paul E. (Eddie) Drake; sisters, Lucille Ebel; Imogene Dachenhausen; Margaret Duffy and Winifred Johnson.
Marian is survived by step-sons, Lowell and Don Cagle; 11 nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, great and great, great nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 28th at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Marian will lie in state after 1:00 p.m., Thurs. where family will greet friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
