Marguerite Jane Harrington, 84, died Aug. 5, 2007, at a Topeka hospital. She was born Sept. 26, 1922, in White Cloud, Kan., to Dr. John A. Patton and Luella Payne Patton. She attended elementary school in Marysville; high school in Kansas City, Mo.; and Clarks School of Business in Topeka. She was a secretary and homemaker and was a member of the Grace Cathedral Altar Guild. She married Claude A. Batty Jr. on Jan. 13, 1940. He died in the Korean War. She married Harold H. Harrington on April 3, 1953. He died Dec. 22, 1997, in Topeka. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and sisters and a stepson, James E. Harrington, Tucson, Ariz. Survivors include a son, H. Thomas Harrington and wife Diane, Topeka; a daughter, Sharon Batty-Harrington-Durrell and fiance James B. Nolan, Lawrence; grandsons Stephen W. Durrell, Lawrence, and Kyle Kimball, Brooklyn, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Harrington will lie in state after 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at l:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Grace Episcopal Cathedral in Topeka. Officiants will be the Very Rev. Steve Lipscomb, Dean; the Rev. Dr. Andrew Grosso, Cathedral Canon; and Deacon Keith Akins. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
