Margie R. Heikes, 83, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, February 9 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born on August 1, 1921 at Clay Center, the daughter of Cyril and Mabel Smee.
She graduated from Clay County Community High School in 1938. After high school, she held a secretarial position with an attorney in Clay Center. She then went to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas in Topeka. She was one of the first Mary Kay Cosmetics consultants in Topeka. In addition to raising her children, she was a member of Kiwanitas. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church for over fifty years, taking part in Sunday school, United Methodist Women, the Lunch Bunch, and was a founding member of the Christian Childrens Center, formerly the Downtown Daycare.
She married Robert l. Heikes on December 25, 1941 in Clay Center. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2004.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy R. Gatewood of Topeka; a daughter JoAnne Rupp of Colorado Springs; a sister, Nola Smee of Topeka; three grandsons; Robert Gatewood of Topeka, Rod Gatewood of Topeka, Jared Rupp of Colorado Springs; a granddaughter, Erica Rupp of Colorado Springs, 5 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday February 19, 2005 at First United Methodist Church in Topeka.
