Margie Bryan

Margie Ethlyn Bryan , 84, of Topeka died Friday, April 23 at Midland Hospice House.

She was born Margie Ethlyn Casteel on January 6, 1920 in Princeton, Mo, the youngest of three children of Maude and Edmund Casteel. As a three year old, she moved with her family to Columbia, Missouri where she attended high school and was a valedictorian of her graduating class. She graduated from the University of Missouri School of Education at age 20 and was elected to Phi Lambda Theta Educational Honor Society. She was a student assistant in the Missouri University Speech Department where she completed work on her Masters Degree in Speech and English and taught high school in Herman, Missouri and speech and drama at Culver-Stocton College in Canton, Missouri.

She met her husband, David M. Bryan, when he enrolled in a class she taught and after a short courtship, they were married on December 23, 1943 in her parent's home in Columbia, Missouri. He survives.

She began her married life and 35 years of faithful service to her church as pastor's wife in Chicago, then lived in Sedalia, Missouri and Chicago once more before David was called in 1960 to serve as minister of First Christian Church of Topeka until his retirement from the pastorate in 1978 to establish Bryan World Tours.

Throughout the years, she has traveled the globe with her husband. She has been around the world five times, visited all seven continents, crossed Russia on the Trans Siberian Railway and cruised the world's oceans.

Her heart, though, was always at home. Motherhood was a gift she received with great happiness and a role she assumed with great pride. Her four children are Margie Ann Rogers, Edwyn Russell Bryan, David Merle Bryan, Jr., and Daniel William Bryan.

Margie Ann and her husband, Steven, of Topeka have 3 children: Elizabeth Reimer, Bryan Rogers and Susan Jasso.

Edwyn and his wife, Elaine, of Topeka have three children: Aimee Oesterreich, Kelley Bryan, and Casey Bryan.

David, Jr. and his wife Marty live in Derby, KS. He has three daughters: Andrea Bryan, Alaynna Bryan and AnnElise Bryan. A son, David Russell Bryan, preceded his grandmother in death.

Daniel and his wife, Kim, of Tulsa, Oklahoma have two children: Katelyn Bryan and Barrett Bryan.

There are seven great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at First Christian Church on Wednesday, April 28 at 11:00 A.M. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church at 1880 SW Gage, Topeka, KS 66604.
