Margery E. Ridgeway, 61, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at her home.

Margery was born January 16, 1944 in Pittsburg, PA., the daughter of William and Mildred Haynes Burleigh. She was raised in Tulsa, OK by her mother and grandmother. She graduated from Will Rogers High School.

She graduated from Tulsa University with a bachelors in Spanish and Secondary Education. She received her Masters Degree from Washburn University in Special Education and was scheduled to complete her doctorate this spring in English as a Second Language with an emphasis in Native American Languages at the University of Kansas.

Margery was an adjunct professor at Haskell Indian University. She was published in the Journal of Multicultural Review in the summer of 2004.

She had been selected as the University of Kansas Most Outstanding Female Non-Traditional Student in 2002. She also had multiple nominations to Who's Who Among American High School Teachers. Other awards include the Pi Lambda Theta award in 2000 and in 2001 she was admitted to the University of Kansas Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.

She was a member of Grace Cathedral for over 20 years and was active in the choir.

Margery was a full time teacher at the Bert Nash Youth Facility in Atchison, She was a member of K.N.E.A. and several other educational organizations.

Above all, her greatest love was her family.

Margery married Roy Ridgeway on November 21, 1993 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Lisa Ready and a son, Bill Henson both of Topeka, two stepchildren , Liese Vanatta, Overland Park, and Doug Ridgeway, Honolulu, HA and 9 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Grace Episcopal Cathedral on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. A Wake service will be held at the Cathedral on Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Cathedral,701 SW 8th., Topeka, KS 66603 or Midland Hospice Care Inc. 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Ks 66606.
