MARGERY ELEANOR EVANS TEEL, 84, Topeka
Margery Eleanor Evans Teel was born January 29, 1920 at Shubert, Nebraska to Ralph B. Evans and Carmen Jones Evans. She passed away May 4, 2004 at 8:36 am.
Her elementary and secondary education was at Shubert, Nebraska. She received a BA degree in music from Peru State Teachers College in Peru, Nebraska in 1941; a masters degree in Elementary Education with Stauffer honors from Washburn University in Topeka in 1969. She did additional graduate work at Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas.
Mrs. Teel taught 36 years, much of that time teaching music. She taught high school music at Barnes and Wetmore, Kansas. After moving to Topeka, she taught sixth grade and music in several schools. She also served as a music consultant and a librarian. She retired from McCarter School in 1980.

During World War II, she worked as a secretary for the Missouri Pacific railroad in Falls City, Nebraska.

Margery was an accomplished pianist. While at Peru State, she accompanied several vocal groups including the varsity choir. During her teaching career, she accompanied various community, church and civic vocal groups.
After retiring from USD 501, she joined her husband in a business venture to deal in glass and other collectables. They traveled a four-state area attending antique and collectible shows.

She was a member of Gage Park Baptist Church, the Topeka Area Retired Teachers Association, Kansas Retired Teachers Association and National Education Association.

She was married on August 4, 1946 to Jesse F. Teel, Jr. in Shubert, Nebraska. He survives. Other survivors include a brother, Ralph V. Evans, Topeka Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Landon and Burton Evans.
Mrs. Teel will lie in state from Noon until 9:00PM Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel . Committal service for the family and friends in Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel at 10:00am Friday, May 7, 2004. Memorial services will follow at Gage Park Baptist Church, 3601 SW 10th Ave at 11:00 am.
