Margaret Williams

Margaret "Maxine" Williams, 91, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010.

Maxine was born in Topeka, October 11, 1919, to James and Barbara (Kreitzer) Thompson. She graduated from Topeka High School and Clark's Business School. Maxine worked for Southwest State Bank, retiring after 25 years as Vice President. During her retirement, she worked at Washburn University, and was an avid supporter of Washburn Men's and Women's basketball. Maxine married Charles M. Williams on September 27, 1941. She was a member at St. David's Episcopal Church.

Maxine is survived by her daughter, Judy Salmon and husband, Bob, of Topeka; two sons, Bob Williams and wife, Carol, of Topeka; and Gary Williams and wife, Janice, of Sachse, TX; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, twin brother Max Thompson, brother John Thompson, sister Betty Cowperthwaite.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010, at St. David's Episcopal Church, 3916 SW 17th St., Topeka. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Maxine will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Memorial contributions may be directed to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
