Margaret "Janice" Whitman, 82, Topeka, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014.
Janice was born December 31, 1931 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Ray and Agnes L. (Burney) Elkinton.
She graduated from Topeka High School in 1949, from Sterling College and received her Master's in Library Science from Kansas State Teachers College (Emporia State University).
She retired as the Library Coordinator of the Shawnee Heights School District.
She was a member of the National Education Association, the Topeka Genealogical Society, alumni for Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, as well as many other associations.
Janice married Donald Whitman on June 2, 1951 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include son, Neil Whitman, Topeka; daughter, Cheryl Whitman, Topeka; grandchildren, Michael (Leah) Dinwiddie, Topeka, Jeremy (Carrie) Dinwiddie, Topeka, Chelsea Whitman, Springfield, MO; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Mount Hope Chapel. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Mount Hope Chapel one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Public Library or a charity of your choice.
